Elise Tedeschi knows firsthand what it means to come back from the brink of death.
You see, a few years ago Elise was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer: essentially a death sentence. Elise was dumbfounded—she was young, vibrant, and had a husband and two young boys. But her doctor said she had only nine months to live…maybe. A miracle was her only hope.
Fortunately for her, God was already at work. A few days earlier, a man whom she barely knew had knocked on her door.
“You’ve come to my spirit three times,” Dwayne said. “I must pray with you.” Elise was Jewish and Dwayne was a Christian, but she agreed.
Now, after her diagnosis, Elise and her husband, Patrick, immediately contacted Dwayne and asked him to pray with them again. As Dwayne began to pray, both Elise and Patrick felt an overwhelming sense of peace.
So Elise started going to church. One Sunday she heard the story of Lazarus, and she was filled with emotion: she felt like Lazarus, with one foot already in the grave. She told her husband, “I think I have this cancer so God can do a miracle.” That day, Elise accepted Jesus as her Savior.
But months later, after a friend had died from cancer, all Elise could think was, Is that going to be me? Will my husband have to raise our sons alone? After all, her oncologist had told her straight out that her case was hopeless, that this cancer would kill her. For three long days, Elise couldn’t stop crying. On the third evening she cried, and prayed to God, almost the entire night.
The next morning Elise felt an overwhelming sense of peace, one like she’d never felt before.
“I think I’m healed!” she told her husband, overjoyed. Two weeks later, she went in for another scan. For the first time, Elise didn’t feel nervous or anxious; she was convinced that she was going to live. The doctor came in to give her the news…and he was astounded. The cancer had vanished from her body—without a trace.
Two and a half years later, Elise is still cancer free. And she attributes her comeback directly to Jesus, the ultimate comeback king.
